What To Wear
Prepare everyone's outfits a few weeks in advance and set them aside. Have everyone try them on a week in advance. In this way, you'll ensure everything still fits comfortably and you don't miss any holes or stains that you didn't see at first. Then, if something needs replacing, you have time to do so. Shoes, jewelry, belts, and other accessories should also be set aside.
How To Get Family Prepared For The Shoot
Soon after booking the session, casually start bringing up the session with your family by talking about how excited you are about the photo session, what they will be wearing, and of course, what they will be getting at the end of the successful shoot i.e. beautiful memories.
Pack Snacks For The Kids
I always make sure that besides my camera kit, I have a loaded candy kit as well. I also advice all my customers with young children to pack a bag of everything their kido likes.
Be sure to include wipes in case things get messy, a hairbrush, and other “emergency” items, such as bobby pins and a backup lipstick. Bring a small favorite toy if you have a baby or a toddler.
What To Avoid
Avoid changing into your shoot clothes way ahead of time. Once you have changed, avoid any colored drinks. We would want to avoid stained teeth or clothing. For kids under 5 years of age, try changing them once on site for photo session. Please discuss attire color with me ahead of time to ensure it doesn’t blend in with the chosen destination.
I hope these tips will help you at your next family session. Here’s to a fun filled and stress free experience!
